The Alcohol & Other Drug Services (AODS) program is offering an excellent employment opportunity as a Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee. This position is assigned to the Discovery House in Martinez, CA, a county-operated residential recovery facility for men. The eligible list of candidates may be used to fill future vacancies within the program.
The Alcohol & Other Drug Services program strives to advocate for alcohol and drug-free communities by promoting individual and family responsibility, hope, and self-sufficiency. This system of care is a comprehensive approach to providing substance use treatment and prevention services by combining administrative and clinical services in an integrated system. The Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee will receive clinical guidance from certified Substance Abuse Counselors and will learn to apply substance use philosophies and strategies to individuals, families, and groups.
License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.
Possession of a registration to obtain certification as an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselor issued by one of the certifying agencies approved by the State of California.
Education: Successful completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units from an accredited college or university which included at least 12 semester or 15 quarter units in psychology, sociology, counseling, or chemical dependency.
Experience: Six (6) months of full-time, or its equivalent experience, counseling persons affected by alcohol or drug abuse.
